Mobile Grooming FAQs

Answers to Most Common Questions:

Is all the grooming done in the van?
YES!
The van is a truly unique vehicle!  It is a 2007 Ford half ton van that has been professionally converted into a fully self-contained dog grooming spa.  Your dog will be treated to heat, air conditioning, warm water, a hydromassage shampoo system in a full-size bathing tub, professional warm/cool air blow dryer, a full-sized grooming table, and all the professional equipment necessary to make regular grooming appointments a pleasure!
Do you need to plug in for power or water?
No. The van is completely self-contained -- I carry 65 gallons of fresh water and all of the electrical equipment is powered by an on board generator.

Do you groom in the winter?
I am able to groom dogs all year long, thanks to to a high-efficiency air conditioning and heating system.  There are some winter days, however, when it is dangerous to have the van on the road (it drives like a hog on ice when there is even a hint of snow on the streets!).  I appreciate that clients who have appointments booked on days when there is wintery weather understand that rescheduling may be necessary.

How do I make an appointment?
Please give me a call (812-327-9607) so we can talk about your dog's individual needs and find an appointment time that is convenient for you.  Please remember to call early; I am typically booking appointments 2-3 weeks in advance.

Is mobile grooming more expensive than taking my dog to a salon?
The fee for full grooming services start at $60.00 and go up, depending on the size of your dog and the complexity of the grooming services you desire.  I will be able to give you a good estimate of the cost when you call to schedule your first appointment.  While mobile grooming is not for everyone, many people find the convenience and personal attention that they receive well worth the added cost.

Do you groom cats?
No -- I do not have the specialty equipment necessary to safely groom cats.

Do you take credit cards?
Not at this time.  I accept cash and personal checks.

Do you have Saturday appointments?
I currently work one or two Saturdays per month.  If that is your preferred day, please schedule early because these appointments fill quickly!

Do you groom large dogs?
Experience has taught me that I can safely accommodate dogs up to 100 pounds, if the owner is available to help me move the dog in and out of the bath tub.  I love big dogs (I own two big, goofy greyhounds) and I will make every effort to keep larger dogs comfortable during their grooming.

Do you groom poodles?
I am very happy to groom all sizes of poodles that are kept in a "utility" clip --closely clipped face and feet, one length through the body and legs with a slightly longer topnot, ears, and tail poof.  Because of the limitations of grooming in a mobile setting, I am not able to do pattern clips or poodles kept in a long coat.

Do you groom cocker spaniels?
I am no longer accepting new cocker spaniel clients.

How about Chows and Chow mixes?
Those of you that own these dogs know that grooming can be a huge challenge!  My first concern is always for the health and safety of your dog -- and me!  I am always happy to talk to you about the possibility of grooming your dog (if it weighs less than 100lbs.) and I will make a determination of whether I will be able to provide services for your dog on an individual basis.

How long does grooming take?
On average, appointments last between one and two hours.  Dogs who have a long, matted, or dense coat may require a longer appointment.
